Sea of Thieves has received Black Powder Stashes, the first limited-time event in a series of planned monthly content updates. The update introduces new challenges, Mercenary Commendations and rewards with some gameplay balancing tweaks.
Rare's swashbuckling action-adventure Sea of Thieves has received another major update after a content drought in the last few weeks. The update 2.0.5 introduces Black Powder Stashes, the first in a series of planned Monthly Content Updates for Sea of Thieves.
In a detailed blog post, Rare detailed everything that has been introduced to Sea of Thieves in update 2.0.5. The biggest addition is a new limited-time event named Black Powder Stashes, which introduces new voyages, that can be purchased at Duke by using doubloons.
These new voyages task crews with hopping from Fort to Fort, finding Gunpowder Kegs, buried Merchant Crates and even guaranteed Stronghold Kegs. Tackling these voyages with your Reaper’s Flag raised adds extra risk to your voyage but also gives you some unique rewards.
You can hand Gunpowder Kegs and Stronghold Kegs to The Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls and Merchant Alliance Trading Companies for rewards and the Mysterious Stranger will reward Pirate Legends with Athena’s Fortune reputation for handing over Stronghold Kegs.
For those who prefer a less competitive challenge, Duke has a set of Black Powder Smuggler's Run voyages. These will take you into each region of the seas to collect buried Merchant Crates, Gunpowder Kegs and even guaranteed Stronghold Kegs for the Trading Companies.
Furthermore, there are Mermaid Gems all across the world - on Islands, Skeleton Fort Vaults, inside Sunken Shipwrecks and even inside the bellies of Krakens and Megalodons.
Last but not least, the update also introduces a range of new Mercenary Commendations that you can unlock from your crew’s explosive efforts out on the seas. You can earn doubloons, unlock Titles and purchase The Inevitable Reaper set which includes a flag, sails and the Mercenary Figurehead for taking part in Duke's latest challenges.
