Ruiner 2’s first gameplay trailer showcases co-op play, Shell swapping mechanics, and deep combat systems ahead of its upcoming playtest.

Ruiner 2 has unveiled its first gameplay trailer, showcasing the sequel’s combat, abilities, and core features. The hype train picked up significant steam after recen announcement trailer, and Ruiner 2′s gameplay debut lives up to expectations.

Ruiner showed players rapid-fire combat and fluid movement, so Ruiner 2 is refining those aspects while adding systems to enhance solo and multiplayer gameplay. Combat takes place in Rengkok, the fictional city once again crippled by crime and gang warfare.

Survival is emphasized in Ruiner 2 as players will die frequently unless they utilize the many systems at their disposal. A central part of Ruiner 2′s new combat features is the Shell system.

Players can earn boss enemies’ Shells by defeating them, effectively allowing you to use their special abilities. Each Shell has its own move set you can customise by choosing from four different upgrade paths.

Players can have three different Shells in their possession at one time. These can be strategically swapped out during gameplay and combined with the game’s loot-based upgrade system and crafting.

Co-op is a key feature in Ruiner 2, as players can bring up to three friends into Rengkok to take down criminals. With four players and a host of Shell abilities, there are tons of effective ability combinations players can experiment with.

Fast and brutal combat was the calling card of the first Ruiner, and Ruiner 2 aims to iterate on that foundation with more involved mechanics. Ruiner 2 will kick off a closed pre-alpha playtest on April 27.
