Reikon Games have officially announced Ruiner 2, a sequel to their cult-classic cyberpunk shooter that expands the franchise into a full action RPG. The game is currently in development for PC and available to wishlist now.

Nearly a decade after the original carved out its cult following, Reikon Games are bringing us back to Rengkok. Ruiner 2 has been officially announced, and the Warsaw-based studio are not playing it safe - this is a full evolution of the franchise from intense top-down shooter into a deep cyberpunk ARPG, and it already looks like it means business.

The setting returns to the dystopian city-scape of the original, but the world-building has been cranked up considerably. In Rengkok, corporations don't just control your life - they own the copyright to your death. Dying is a breach of contract. The system is designed to keep people alive, productive, and suffering. It's a brilliantly grim premise, and exactly the kind of maximalist cyberpunk nihilism that made the original Ruiner so memorable.

The Shell System

The headline mechanical addition is the Shell System, and it sounds pretty exciting, at least on paper. Rather than locking players into a single class, Ruiner 2 has players unlock unique characters called Shells by defeating bosses. In single-player, you command a roster of up to three Shells simultaneously, switching between them in real time to adapt to the flow of combat. Shells also enable Synergies - the ability to chain abilities across different characters to create devastating combos. The right swap at the right moment wins the fight. That's the core promise.

In co-op, up to three players each bring their own Shells into the mix, multiplying the synergy possibilities considerably. More bodies, more combinations, higher stakes.

Game Director Marek Roefler put it plainly: the team are massive ARPG fans who hated being locked into a single character for a hundred hours. Ruiner 2 is built for players who want to experiment, swap builds on the fly, and break the game wide open.

When can you play

Ruiner 2 is currently in development for PC. No release date has been announced, but the game is available to wishlist on Steam now. Console versions have not been confirmed.
