Resident Evil 2 Remake is highly anticipated, but you may not have been aware of how much hype is building up for the release. A quick look at the number of players who played demo offers a hint of Remake having the biggest launch yet.

Resident Evil franchise has been popular for over two decades now, but Resident Evil 2 Remake may prove to be the biggest earner in all of that time. Capcom recently hosted an event where players could pick up the free demo for the upcoming zombie fest.

GitHyp picked up the numbers that showed a lot of interest for the game, with concurrent player count peaking at 10.642. To put matters into perspective, Resident Evil 7 was also the most hyped up game in the franchise a couple of years ago, and ended up breaking sales records on its own. Capcom held a demo event in a similar manner, named "Beginning Hour" but it managed to peak at only 3.885 concurrent players.

That means 1-Shot Demo peaked at almost three times as many concurrent players as Beginning Hour and Resident Evil 2 Remake is now looking primed to dethrone Resident Evil 7 as the biggest title in Resident Evil franchise.

The success of both games can likely be attributed to Capcom somewhat going back to Resident Evil's survival horror roots as people didn't really take too well to mowing down hordes of zombies who lost all of their horror value. Needless to say, even fewer people liked boulder punching .

Compared to other games, Resident Evil 7 was only a moderate success, as it peaked at only about 20.000 concurrent players. It was only #19 on Steam during its launch, and older games, such as Fallout 4 peak at higher concurrent player counts even to this day.

It remains to be seen how much better Resident Evil 2 Remake will fare, as it probably gets more attention due to drawing a wider range of gamers in - both those who were born after the original Resident Evil 2 released, and those grandpas who witnessed Resident Evil 2 as children. I'm referring to myself here.
