Fans have been asking for controller support on PC for Path of Exile for years and it appears their wishes are finally coming true.
Path of Exile was originally launched on PC only, which meant the game was built around the mouse and keyboard control layout. As time went on, console versions of the game popped up and ever since that became a thing, fans have been asking Grinding Gear Games to extend controller support to PC.
Close to the advent of Steam Deck, GGG announced that would indeed happen and players with gamepads of all sorts will be able to enjoy their favourite hack and slash RPG through a different input.
When patch 3.17.3 kicks off, players will be able to test out controller support through a beta version but there are a few steps they will need to go through in order to get access.
First, they need to connect a controller to their PC and launch Path of Exile. Then they need t ogo to the Input Options panel and change the Input Method to Gamepad (Beta). At that point, the control should change to the gamepad without having to reset the game.
On top of that, Epic and MacOS versions of the game don't have this option yet.
The full release is expected to happen with the launch of the 3.18 expansion and since this is a beta, it's possible there will be issues along the way.
