Developer Grinding Gear Games have revealed a brand new, crossbow-wielding, class called the Mercenary, which turns Path of Exile 2 into an isometric shooter-like experience.

On the same day when Blizzard decided to unveil a bunch of new details for Diablo 4's upcoming Spiritborn expansion, Grinding Gear Games, the developer of Path of Exile 2 also dropped new gameplay footage and info about their new class called the Mercenary.

Path of Exile 2's Mercenary is a crossbow-wielding class that will turn the game into a shooter-like experience due to how the crossbow works. It's more like a shotgun than an actual crossbow as you will see in the gameplay above.

The devs also showcased the grenade types that come with this class. You'll need a grenade launcher to fire these at the enemies. There's a flash grenade that doesn't do any damage but it causes stun, locking the enemy into place.

Then there's the oil grenade that coats enemies in oil and slows them down. Oh, and just a tiny spark will be enough to ignite the area and enemies into flames, dealing big damage.

Grinding Gear Games also confirmed a major new feature that will launch with Path of Exile 2. It's the WASD movement system, which allows players to use WASD keys on their keyboard to move their character, instead of using the classic click and move system which is found in Diablo 4 for example.

It's certainly something that PC gamers will appreciate as the classic movement system in ARPGs does feel a bit outdated.

You can check how the WASD movement system works in action in the gameplay above.
