Path of Exile 2 will not launch on November 15. The new release date has been set for December 6, 2024. The small, three-week delay was announced today by developer Grinding Gear Games, who revealed that the actual game is fine, but the server infrastructure needs a bit more work to ensure a smooth early access launch.
More precisely, transferring microtransactions from Path of Exile 1 to Path of Exile 2 and across various accounts and console systems requires a lot of work to ensure all the data is backwards-compatible.
It turned out that dealing with such a large data dump can result in all sorts of gremlins so Grinding Gear Games found multiple accounts with the same name, same email address and believe it or not same Steam ID.
Grinding Gear Games say they perhaps could've made the original release date but it wouldn't be without mistakes that would potentially ruin someone's experience on the launch day.
It's a rare occurrence to see developers being so transparent and upfront about game development so this announcement certainly is a breath of fresh air and something that every developer should look at if they're aiming to be more honest towards their players.
Path of Exile 2 is still one of the most anticipated video game releases of this year even more so after Diablo 4 failed to hit all the right notes so players will certainly look forward to seeing how Grinding Gear Games' action RPG can improve on its predecessor and main competitor.
Path of Exile 2 is coming to PC via Steam, macOS, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
