Owlcat Games recently posted an update on The Expanse: Osiris Reborn progression system. Instead of relying on RPG class limitations, player freedom plays a significant role in developing combat-oriented builds through the use of weapons, gadgets, and multiple skill trees.
Selected at the start of the game, your initial specialization serves as merely a starting point. As you level up, you’ll have the ability to unlock skills from four unique skill trees; Marksmanship, Gadgets, Survivalist, and Leader.
Combined with your arsenal of weapons and gadgets, players can mix-and-match skills to develop a playstyle that works for them and can change as they level up.
Similar systems are implemented for weapons and gadgets as they can be leveled up in a variety of ways. Some high-tier perks can even change how your weapons operate, adding new behaviors to your current equipment.
Players will no longer be forced to replace their old favorites but will be encouraged to improve them however they see fit.Your squad members also have their own skill trees that players can level up. However, each squad member specializes in their respective fields. You can still customize how your squad members level up by choosing what specialization and gadget upgrades to apply to their skill tree.
Developer Owlcat Games says that these systems are designed to allow players to find a playstyle that suits them without boxing them into rigid classifications.
We hope that allows for more build diversity and players can change how their characters play as they find new weapons and gadgets. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is coming to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, & GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2027. You can find more information here.
