Blizzard just announced a surprise bonus event for Overwatch to celebrate the successful launch of its revamped Season 1. All players are getting five free Loot Boxes and a weekend-long Double Match XP event. This bonus event caps off a successful first half of 2026 for Blizzard’s hero shooter.
The publisher officially dropped the “2” from Overwatch 2 and relaunched the game with a lot of revamped systems, new heroes, and a seasonal storyline that will play out across the year.
Season 1 has already seen record player counts on Steam and a major bump in Twitch viewership, so Blizzard is gifting players some free goodies and progression.
Double Match XP: Dates and Details
The Double XP Event starts February 20 at 11 AM PT and ends February 23 (circa 11 AM PT). Battle Pass XP earned from completing matches will be doubled.
Regular match XP is approximately:
- 700 - 1,000 XP win or lose
- Plus 20% group bonus
- Additional rollover bonus when queueing into high demand roles. (typically between 100-500)
Each of these bonuses from winning matches are doubled for the event. So players will be able to earn substantially more than 2,000 Battle Pass XP per match if they play right. Note that XP from daily, weekly or event challenges Hero progression levels is not doubled.
How to Claim the Five Free Loot Boxes
Players will be eligible for five free Loot Boxes simply by logging into the game. Upon login:
- Note from the game confirming players have received their reward
- Loot Boxes are deposited into players account
- Boxes can be opened from in-game inventory
That’s it! Nothing else you need to do.
More Free Loot Boxes via Twitch Drops
It doesn’t stop there though. The Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest Twitch Drops promotion is live until March 8th at 11:59 PM PT. You can earn 10 more Loot Boxes (2 Legendaries) by watching any Overwatch stream on Twitch for 13 hours.
With Double XP active and several free items on the docket, Blizzard is fully embracing Overwatch’s resurgence.
