Blizzard announced the date of the return of Overwatch League, which is also doubling down as a proper glimpse of Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 has been delayed multiple times and frankly, it's still hard to gauge when the game might come out. Considering how little it would actually change for the original Overwatch, the fans are getting restless and disappointed due to the long wait. In 2021, Blizzard announced we would finally see OW2 properly in action when OWL finally resumes and now we actually have a date.

Overwatch League Season 5 will kick off on May 5, 2022.

Once it does, the fans can look forward to some changes, besides the aforementioned deeper look into OW2, which will serve as the base for the pros to go up against each other.

The league will still have the East and West regions, where East will consist of seven teams while West will have 13 of them. Each team will need to play at least 24 regular-season matches, including the seeding matches.

During each cycle, Eastern teams will play round-robin while the Western teams will duke it out twice against every other opponent during the season.

There is currently no schedule for the matches but Blizzard noted they will be adding it soon so if you're hungry for some Overwatch esports, keep an ear to the ground.

Alternatively, check in with us from time to time, we'll be following the general announcements.
