Overwatch - Anniversary

Blizzard will be celebrating Overwatch's fist anniversary from 23 May until 12 June. Not many details are known, but a customary free weekend will be in effect from 26 to 29 May. Game of the Year Edition will roll out on 23 May 2017.

Well folks, its almost here. Overwatch's first anniversary. Blizzard will be celebrating with a new seasonal event, a free weekend and a digital GotY edition. The entire event will last from 23 May until 12 June. More details will be released at a later date, but for the moment we know that the free weekend will happen on the one weekend I can't possibly find the time to play it. Ahem I mean, from 26 to 29 May.

The free weekend will grant you access to the full game, you'll be able to level up and unlock customisation items. All progress can, as per usual, be transferred to a purchased copy. Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition will come out on the day of the anniversary, 23 May, for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. It will launch digitally and replace the Origins Edition.

The price of the Game of the Year Edition has not yet been announced. Bonus items included in the GotY Edition are identical to the ones available in the Origins Edition, but you'll also get ten Loot Boxes. Here you go, a list of what items await in the GotY Edition:

  • 10 Loot Boxes
  • Vintage Blackwatch Reyes, Strike-Commander Morrison, Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Phara, and Slipstream Tracer skins.
  • Tracer for Heroes of the Storm
  • Baby Winston pet for World of Warcraft
  • Mercy's wings for Diablo III
  • Tracer, Reaper, Pharah, Winston, Bastion, and Soldier: 76, portraits for StarCraft II
  • Overwatch-themed card back for Hearthstone

An update set to roll out in time for the Event will see the regular, non-event loot boxes receive some new content. Sombra and Orisa will be getting their own laughing and sitting emotes, and Reaper's "I'm not the one with the statue" remark from the Uprising comic will come to the game in the form of an emote and a spray.
