Overwatch 2: Developers are experimenting with Lifeweaver
Lifeweaver is expected to perform much better after the recent buffs

Key Points from the Article

  • Lifeweaver has found his place in the Overwatch 2 meta as a strong alternative to Mercy, thanks to his powerful healing and unique abilities.
  • However, he still has some shortcomings, such as switching between damage and healing with him and his Petal Platform ability being used more by Lifeweaver players themselves than their teammates.
  • The developers are aware of these issues and hinted at possible upgrades in a May 23 Reddit AMA.
  • There's no timeline for these changes, and it's unclear if they will make it to the live game. However, if the proposed Petal Platform upgrades are significant, changes to his damage capabilities might be implemented first.

Lifeweaver is expected to perform much better after the recent buffs

Overwatch 2 developers discuss potential buffs and nerfs for various heroes, including Cassidy, Reaper, and Roadhog, with updates expected at different times.

Despite a rocky start, Lifeweaver has found his place in the Overwatch 2 meta as a strong alternative to Mercy, thanks to his powerful healing and unique abilities.

However, he still has some shortcomings. Switching between damage and healing with him can feel awkward, and his Petal Platform ability is often used more by Lifeweaver players themselves than their teammates.

Why are the devs tweaking Lifeweaver?

The developers at Blizzard are aware of these issues and hinted at possible upgrades in a May 23 Reddit AMA. Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson mentioned ongoing discussions about making it easier to switch between healing and damage, which would enhance his effectiveness in team fights. Dawson said:

One of the discussions we are having right now (actually this week) and have been having for a while is around the friction that comes with switching between his healing and damage,” He further added by saying: “Giving him more flexibility here would be a great boon to his capability within team fights.”

Additionally, Dawson revealed that the team is experimenting with ways to make Petal Platform more useful offensively, such as providing buffs to teammates who stand on it. He noted that players usually jump off the platform, so changes would need to make staying on it more appealing.

Personally would love for that to be a more attractive area to stand on as a teammate, whether that be through a buff the platform gives you or something else,” he added.

When are these updates going live?

There’s no timeline for these changes, and it’s unclear if they will make it to the live game. However, if the proposed Petal Platform upgrades are significant, changes to his damage capabilities might be implemented first.

We can expect to see these and more changes in not so near future because currently, Overwatch 2 has their hands full with the OWCS and prepping for it.
