New World will get its first expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth, on October 3, 2023.
The expansion will cost $30 / €30 and some of the biggest features include a new weapon, mount system, story and progression system.
In regards to the new weapon, it is the flail, which will primarily be a Focus weapon, allowing players to buff allies or debuff enemies with their spells. It will be the first weapon other than longsword to allow using a shield in the other hand.
Mounts are finally coming with this update and players will be able to tame and ride horses, dire wolves and lions. Each of them will have customisable equipment and a name you can give them.
Riding will be a new trade skill that will provide upgrades like increased movement speed while mounted, buffs and better consumables for the animals.
The devs previously discussed the removal of First Light as a starter zone and it will be replaced by Elysian Wilds. This is where the new story content will take place as the adventurers attempt to figure out what happened to the people and villages in the area.
As for progression, level cap will be increased to 65, trade skills to 250 and gear score to 700. It remains to be seen whether the players will actually like the additional grind.
