New World players are unhappy with the new expedition difficulties but it seems like they will have to deal with it.

Amazon Game Studios recently answered one of the burning quests New World players have, that being about the difficulty of the new mutated expeditions.

Namely, the devs intended the new maximum, M3, to be harder than the previous one, which was M10, but that doesn't sit well with the community as of right now.

Additionally, the players complained about M3 nullifying some of the more interesting mechanics they came up with to overcome the challenge but the devs' response was that they will not change anything for the time being.

The reasoning is apparently that AGS folks think the players didn't optimise their builds yet and when that happens, the difficulty will not seem as insurmountable as it is now.

While there is logic in that, the response didn't deal with the other part of the question about the difficulty being a stat check rather than a challenge since it's making the game simpler because it voids some of the mechanics and advanced tactics groups used to have.

AGS also noted they don't want M3 to be accessible to everyone. After all, it is supposed to be the hardest PvE content and only meant for those who are willing to go through the ordeal of getting cheesed by the AI.

Overall, there doesn't seem to be much hope anything will change in the foreseeable future and the only way we see it happening is if the players fail to overcome the obstacle in the months to come.
