During CitizenCon 2023, Roberts Space Industries released a lengthy video about Squadron 42, named I Held the Line.
In it, the developers talked about various aspects of putting the game together and walked fans through the star-studded cast that probably captured all the necessary footage already as the game has been in development for so long.
The devs themselves noted something not many expected - the game is feature-complete and is now in the polishing phase.
Considering the incredibly long development of Star Citizen and Squadron 42, many gave up hope and are still sceptical about this announcement.
One thing that added oil to the fire is the fact that nowhere in the almost half-an-hour-long video RSI stated what the release date or even release window is.
There are mentions of some major developments for 2024 but they specifically avoided stating that it's the release window for Squadron 42.
In any case, the polishing phase is there to make the game as enjoyable as possible for the players, which is what most of the video is about - devs explaining their vision on how to make that happen.
Squadron 42 was originally announced for a 2014 release, which means the next year will mark a decade of time that went by after the game was supposed to be launched. That may be why they are refusing to put a finger on the calendar now.
