Muskets are highly annoying in Outpost Rush PvPvE mode in New World because the wielders of this weapon can camp up virtually anywhere and reliably hit opponents for large amounts of damage without suffering any risks.
Because of this, the vast majority of the population demanded nerfs for a very long time and Amazon Game Studios are about to implement them, alongside some buffs.
The latest update on PTR introduced several changes to the musket that should deal with the extreme damage but also help it keep mobile.
First, the passive talent Ballistic Advantage will no longer remove the damage falloff penalty, it will not just reduce it by 50 per cent after 50 meters. In other words, expect much less damage from muskets that are at extreme distances.
However, once you finally jump them, they won't be easy prey even after the recent rapier nerfs. They can now load powered-up shots on the move and also use the Sticky Bomb without having to stop in place.
On the other hand, the bomb no longer causes stagger so it will still be easier to track them.
Overall, it will be easier to catch up with musketeers who will now need to constantly move as they can't just pop people from 100 meters out but they will have a fighting chance up close.
