Decades after being unable to land him in the first Mortal Kombat, Jean Claude Van Damme is finally here.

Longtime fans of the Mortal Kombat series will be aware that Ed Boon originally wanted Jean Claude Van Damme to portray Johnny Cage, who was modelled after him.

The in-game Hollywood actor has a few iconic moves that mirror those of Van Damme, such as the split punch, but even though homage had been paid, the actor refused the role for decades.

Mortal Kombat 1 will break that tradition as NetherRealm Studios finally got the actor to become Johnny Cage, albeit with a caveat.

Jean Claude Van Damme will portray Johnny only with a skin that is reserved for those who purchase the Premium Edition of the game which costs a whopping $110 / €70.

Interestingly enough, the price gap between the USD and EUR conversion is usually not that high.

Anyway, the skin will feature both the likeness and the voice of Jean Claude Van Damme in his iconic Bloodsport outfit.

Granted, this will be a huge nostalgia driver for the fans of the '80s and '90s action movies but it remains to be seen whether it will appeal to the younger audiences who were not born for decades after that particular era.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be available on September 19, 2023, with those who prepurchased the Premium Edition having a head start.
