NetherRealm have released the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming fighting title Mortal Kombat 1 and it's safe to say that it's as brutal as you might have expected.
We finally got some more details about Mortal Kombat 1 , thanks to a lengthy gameplay trailer that aired at the Summer Game Fest show last night. NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon appeared on the stage to explain some of the new features including Kameos but the spotlight was certainly on the visual presentation of the game and incredible fatalities.
As you can see in the trailer, Mortal Kombat 1 looks truly stunning and the movement and fighting are no less impressive. We're particularly impressed by the highly detailed stages, which make this Warner Bros' title really pop.
But anyways, let's dive into the Kameos mechanic a little bit as that one has been confusing many players since developers announced it.
Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Fighters explained
Basically, Mortal Kombat 1 features two rosters - the main fighter roster and the Kameo fighter roster. In the menu, you'll first choose your main fighter like Scorpion for example and then the game will allow you to pick a Kameo fighter, which you can summon by pressing the R1 button during the fight.
Kameo fighters can deal damage and continue your combos as you can see in the trailer and in the screenshot below, where Goro jumps in to help out Mileena against Kitana.
Kameo fighters certainly look like an interesting mechanic that will add more depth to the gameplay but it remains to be seen whether or not it sits well with hardcore Mortal Kombat fans.
Mortal Kombat 1 is officially launching on September 19, 2023, for PC , PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S .
