Kronika proved to be a formidable entity in Mortal Kombat 11 but her demise meant that Liu Kang got to remake the timeline, which gave NetherRealm Studios an opportunity to reboot the universe.
That said, the reboot was not absolute and there is some continuation of the story, as was proven with the latest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1.
Geras popped up and was confirmed as a playable character, allied with Liu Kang in the story.
Just like with Kronika, it appears that he serves dutifully under Liu Kang but sees some faults with the latter's plans for keeping the piece in the current timeline.
The character is not as bulky as he was back in Mortal Kombat 11 but seems every bit as powerful, with freezing enemies in time still being one of his hallmarks.
On top of that, he has a pretty cool fatality that somewhat mirrors that of Liu Kang, although the two have differences in where the fatalities happen, signifying the gap in their powers.
While he can't create a black whole to annihilate his opponents, we have no doubts about Geras' potential to wreck the enemies with his time and sand-powered abilities.
