NetherRealm Studios knocked it out of the park with the latest two trailers for Mortal Kombat 1, one showcasing a few characters that will be available on the regular roster and the other featuring the first DLC pack.
In the case of the default roster, the trailer presented the Umgadi, an order of warrior priestesses that serve the royal family.
Li Mei, who makes a return from obscurity, used to be their leader but it was on her watch that Kitana's father was killed so she is motivated by better service and redemption while Tanya is taking every opportunity to remind her of her failure.
Meanwhile, the trailer also provided an interesting lore twist - the Tarkatans are no longer a race hailing from a specific zone but seemingly normal Edenians who were afflicted by a disease that will eventually turn them into bloodthirsty monsters.
This part of the trailer revealed that Mileena is also afflicted by the disease while Kitana and the Umgadi are struggling to keep her from turning into a monstrosity.
Besides those exciting reveals, the second trailer showcased the five DLC characters which will be part of the first Kombat Pack, including Quan Chi, Ermac, Omni Man, Homelander and Peacemaker.
The first two are well-known to the fans of Mortal Kombat while the others are licensed collaborations with TV shows Invincible, The Boys and Peacemaker.
