Monster Hunter continues to be a record-breaking franchise for the Japanese publisher Capcom, who today announced that the series has surpassed 100 million units sold globally. Monster Hunter is still Capcom's second-best-selling franchise, behind the iconic horror IP Resident Evil.
The best-selling title in the series is Monster Hunter: World with over 25 million sold copies and it still continues to sell well and break records, say Capcom. Monster Hunter: World managed to sell over 1 million units each year in the seven years since its release, which is certainly a major achievement and just goes on to show how big this monster-hunting series has become for Capcom.
Here are the best-selling Monster Hunter games:
- Monster Hunter: World (with Iceborne) - 25 million
- Monster Hunter Rise (and Sunbreak) - 15 million
- Monster Hunter Portable 3rd - 4.9 million
- Monster Hunter XX/Generations Ultimate 4.7 million
Capcom also mentioned the upcoming release Monster Hunter Wilds in their press release, stating that the game is still on schedule for the 2025 launch. The publisher claim that the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds helped increase the interest in the franchise and boost sales over 100 million units.
All in all, Capcom seem pretty happy with how their second-biggest franchise is doing at the moment and there's no doubt they will heavily invest in Wilds marketing to ensure more success globally. Monster Hunter Wilds reveal trailer has already passed four million views across the official game and PlayStation channels so it's safe to say that the interest in the game is there, and we haven't even seen anything yet.
With the success of the Resident Evil series, Dragon's Dogma 2, Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter, Capcom have certainly become one of the most successful publishers in Japan and the World. The company has several other projects in the works at the moment and judging by their recent output, the future looks very bright for the publisher.
