Phil Spencer has "liked" two posts on social media X mentioning the Xbox handheld, which fuels the rumours about Xbox making a Switch-like device.

Microsoft are set to unveil their new strategy for Xbox this Thursday, February 15, 2024. The expectations are that Microsoft will confirm PS5 and Switch releases for some of their first-party titles like Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, and reassure fans that Xbox hardware is here to stay.

That's where the Xbox handheld rumours enter the room as some Xbox insiders reveal that the next-gen Xbox will feature two SKUs - a traditional high-end console and a Switch-like dockable device.

As rumours are swirling on social media, some Xbox fans and respected journalists on X started offering their thoughts on the rumoured handheld and guess what, Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer himself liked some of their posts, which certainly fuels the Xbox handheld rumours further.

One of the two posts that Spencer liked comes from The Verge writer Tom Warren, who implied that Asus did a good job of implementing Game Pass on ROG Ally but for a true Xbox Game Pass handheld, Microsoft needs to step in and make a better product.

The other post is an opinion piece from Windows Central's Jez Corden, who believes the Xbox handheld is almost inevitable in the future.

Could we get an Xbox handheld device in the coming years? Xbox insiders seem to think so

In an ideal world, the Microsoft Gaming boss should be able to like things on X without the fear of having fans jumping to all sorts of conclusions but we all know that's not how things work, especially with how active the Xbox handheld rumours are lately.

We'd say that Xbox working on a handheld should not come as a surprise to anyone as such types of devices are becoming globally popular worldwide. Xbox could indeed profit from such a product but only if the device is able to run the Game Pass library natively, not via the cloud like the Logitech G cloud.

Additionally, another key aspect would be the software. Microsoft would really need to make the handheld that runs the Game Pass app but without all the annoying Windows stuff, like in Asus ROG Ally.

Whether Microsoft officially confirm they are working on an Xbox handheld or give us a slight hint at the upcoming Xbox business update, it remains to be seen. Such an announcement would certainly reassure fans that Xbox won't be leaving hardware production in the near future.
