Mavericks: Proving Grounds

Mavericks: Proving Grounds is a battle royale game in development by Automaton Games. They are promising a next gen experience but details on the game have been scarce so far. That is about to change on EGX Rezzed 2018.

EGX Rezzed seems to have quite the show this year, with both Phoenix Point and Mavericks: Proving Grounds having more to reveal during the event. There is no doubt people will want to grab more info about the game that is meant to pit up to 1000 players against each other at the same time.

That milestone will not be happening in the near future though, and Automaton Games are hoping to start it up lightly with only 400 players in a single battle. The developers are emphasising the carefully crafted environments in the game that include roaming wildlife, dynamic weather and foliage displacement. On top of it, there will be environment destruction for the maximum immersion.

All these graphics features, combined with a massive number of player models that need to be loaded will be a huge load for any rig in existence and it's still a mystery how Automaton Games are going to optimise it.

Graphics shown in the trailer and on screenshots are vastly superior to those of PUBG, and Bluehole are struggling to optimise the game with four times fewer player models than what Mavericks is supposed to have. It will definitely be worth to keep an eye on whether this question will get answered at EGX.

In case you are not going to London or can't attend EGX Rezzed for another reason, but still want to see this game's coverage, you will be able to do so on EGX Twitch  Friday, 13 March 2018.
