Marathon may add dedicated Duo Lobbies after player feedback
Bungie is reviewing feedback from Marathon's server slam, with dedicated duo-only lobbies being one of the most requested features

Key Points from the Article

  • Bungie has acknowledged the feedback and shared it with the development team, though no official confirmation of implementation has been made
  • Marathon's launch is days away, with uncertainty whether duo-only lobbies will be available at release or added post-launch

Bungie is considering dedicated duo lobbies for Marathon after community feedback during the server slam test ahead of launch.

As Marathon draws closer to launch, Bungie is reflecting on feedback submitted during the game’s recent server slam. Requests for dedicated duo-only lobbies were among the most popular community asks from that session.

Right now, players can only queue solo, as a duo, or full three-player squads. Unfortunately, this means duos frequently find themselves squaring off against fully-filled enemy teams of three.

Many community members have said this leads to frustratingly unbalanced matchups - particularly in high-pressure extraction games.

Duo Lobbies Under Review

Alongside its server slam debrief, Bungie published a final summary of player feedback. Topics on that list included complicated UI, PvP pacing, economy, climbing, and movement inputs. Requests for “additional queue options” like dedicated duo matchmaking were also featured.

Here are your current queue options:

  • Solo Queue
  • Duo Queue
  • Full Team Queue

Bungie sees you rocking into those queues as duos, but there isn’t a dedicated playlist for two-player squads. As a result, two-person teams can often be thrown into games where the majority of opponents are groups of three.

Fortunately, it sounds like we could see that change sooner rather than later. Bungie said that the desire for duo-only lobbies has been “captured and shared” with the team.

Will Duo Queues Arrive at Launch?

There has not been an official announcement that there will be duo-only lobbies available when Marathon releases. The team did not outright guarantee the feature.

Variable team sizes have always been baked into extraction shooters. Battle royale games tend to focus on balancing squads across the field, but games like these often intentionally scramble team sizes. That being said, a lot of players want to feel like they’re getting a fair shot while queueing with only one friend.

Either way, we only have days left until launch. We’ll see if Bungie is able to have dedicated duo matchmaking at the ready or if it’ll come post-release.
