Bungie is prepping for another Marathon testing window, providing players an early look at the extraction-based shooter before its full release sometime in early 2026. The studio has yet to announce a final release date, but this December playtest represents a significant milestone as Bungie continues to iterate on the game’s fundamental systems with feedback from the community.
But this playtest will be much more limited in scope than in the past. Happening December 12–15, 2025, the playtest will be for North American players only and governed by an NDA.
This means that those lucky enough to participate will not be able to publicly share gameplay footage or impressions of their time with Marathon. Registration for the event has now opened, and Bungie has shared all of the important details for those interested in signing up.
Marathon December 2025 Playtest Dates and Availability
The Marathon community playtest will run from:
- 12–15 December 2025
- Daily schedule: 2 PM PT – 8 PM PT
The test will be available on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series S
- PC
This playtest is exclusive to North American players and only for those selected via official invitation will receive access.
Registration, Invites and Eligibility
Registration for the playtest will be open via Bungie’s website, but an application does not mean you will be accepted.
The following are important things to note:
- Testing from a previous Alpha or NDA test does not guarantee access for the Public Beta Test.
- Access invites will be sent out in waves throughout the duration of the testing phase.
- Access to the testing phase will only be sent through official Bungie emails.
- Your invite is unique to your Bungie.net and Discord accounts and cannot be passed around or transferred to another person.
Any person interested in joining the testing phase will have to use the right account information when applying for access (specifically the right Discord account information).
Strict NDA Rules Explained
Please note Bungie has previously announced that the Beta test for Marathon is “entirely under NDA”.
This means:
- Streaming, recording gameplay, taking screenshots, or publicly discussing the playtest are strictly forbidden.
- Bug reports, feedback and any recordings of the game must be sent through the NDA-limited Marathon Discord channels.
- The Discord access to the NDA channels could take up to 24 hours to process after access has been granted via invite distribution.
Violating any of these rules will result in immediate removal from the testing phase and barred from future testing phases.
NDA Discord Access and Feedback Sharing
Players are required to join the official Marathon Discord server at:
- discord.gg/marathonthegame
After joining, NDA access roles will be applied to the Discord account name associated with the Bungie.net account name provided during registration.
NDA restricted channels on the server will allow players to:
- Submit bugs through the NDA Discord Bug Reporting channel.Share impressions and gameplay feedback in NDA feedback channels.
- Fill out surveys that will be sent out directly by Bungie in Discord and via email.
Failure to provide a valid Discord account name when registering or failure to join the Discord server by the time access is granted will result in loss of access to NDA Discord channels.
PC Minimum System Requirements
As for those on PC, Bungie has listed the minimum system requirements for that platform too:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-6600
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
- RAM: 8GB
For those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S, just make sure the console is updated and you’re signed into the right account.
