Marathon has officially released their largest ever endgame activity to date. The Cryo Archive has officially launched after a massive ARG event wherein players had to solve puzzles and eradicate large quantities of UESC enemies.
The zone has now opened up for players to tackle, and there is a brand new trailer to go alongside it featuring the voice of Ben Starr. The zone is being described as highly team based, offering some of the largest and most difficult content in the game right now.
Endgame Requirements and Team Focus
The Cryo Archive will not support solo gameplay. Players will have to meet the following criteria to gain access:
- Reach level 25
- Complete all faction liaison contracts
- Have a loadout valued at 5,000 Credits minimum
To assist new players into the fold, Bungie will be providing players with a one time Sponsored Kit of blue rarity equipment. This will allow players to test out the new zone without having to risk their best gear.
Raid-Like Puzzles and PvEvP Threats
While Cryo Archive will feature raider-like puzzles, the new zone will retain Marathon’s fundamental PvEvP gameplay elements. This means squads will have to fight AI and deal with other squads who are competing for the same objectives.
Players will earn Security Clearance as they progress deeper into the zone. Security Clearance will be used to:
- Unlock deeper areas
- Access key objectives
- Enable extraction
Vaults, Keys and High-Value Loot
Players will interact with seven Vaults full of loot. To access these Vaults, one must:
- Locate Vault Keys
- Complete further objectives within the run
Vault keys can be farmed very easily outside of Archive mode, especially during high-risk activities. This creates a meta outside of Cryo Archive itself where players will prepare themselves before entering the Archive.
Weekend-Only Availability
Just as Ranked mode is only available on weekends, Cryo Archive will be an exclusive weekend mode. This is to give players something to strive for during the week to farm keys, upgrade equipment, and strategize for runs.
Each week players will be given Contracts that reward players with high rarity loot and keys. These contracts can be rerolled at any time. However, once players complete a contract, they will not receive that specific contract again until the weekly reset.
Players can also progress permanently through Codex, which will reward players with cosmetics like Runner Shell skins.
