Marathon Week 2: Updates, fixes and more

Bungie shares new Marathon Week 2 update details including larger Vault stack sizes, planned audio distance changes, PC performance improvements, and a fix for Rook credit exploits.

Developer Bungie provided an update today detailing changes to come over the second weekend of Marathon. Bungie has confirmed that another update is coming next week which will include quality-of-life changes, weapon balance tweaks, as well as a server-side patch to fix a credit exploit.

Upcoming Marathon Update 1.0.5 will include various tweaks intended to improve general player experience and address community feedback received since launch.

Vault Stack Sizes Are Increasing

Storage and management within the Vault has been one of the most requested changes from players. Stack sizes are coming to several categories of items within the Vault in the next update, according to Bungie. This should allow players to free up space inside the Vault.

Here’s what will have increased stack sizes:

  • Consumables
  • Ammo
  • Salvage
  • Grenades

Players can also expect a few more Vault filters, including ones for keys and backpacks.

Audio Distance Adjustments Planned

Bungie addressed criticisms of Marathon's audio distance system, which allows players hear enemies firing far distances away. Developers stated they expanded the distance too far.

The studio plans to scale back distance players can hear enemies, but still hear ambient activity around them. No specific distance was mentioned. The team is still experimenting with how to balance this, but intends to scale it back in a future update.

PC Performance Improvements in Development

In addition to fixes for consoles, the studio has also responded to players encountering performance issues on powerful PC rigs. Bungie stated at launch that it was focusing its efforts on optimising the game’s performance on low- and mid-range PCs.

Things will be changing to accommodate players with better PC hardware, though.

  • Short-term plans: Performance guide for players to get the most out of their existing PCs
  • Mid-to-long term: Further engine optimisations designed with high-spec PCs in mind

Rook Credit Exploit Fixed

Players have also been able to abuse a reward offered from Rook. By starting a run and exiting before it officially begins players were able to claim a credit reward.

This issue has been resolved on the server-side, so you shouldn’t need to restart your client. Now that the second weekend of launch has hit, Bungie says it will be looking to player feedback as it works on the 1.0.5 patch as well as future updates to Season of the Marathon.
