Developer Bungie has dropped some insight on Ranked play in Marathon. Marathon will have Ranked play available, but only during weekends.
Drawing influence from systems like Trials of Osiris in Destiny, Marathon’s first Ranked event will take place March 21-24. Ranked combines extraction modes with traditional rank-based matchmaking.
Weekend-Only Ranked Format
Ranked mode won’t be available all of the time. Instead, Marathon will host Ranked weekend events. During these weekends, Perimeter will be open for Ranked play.
Weekend rankings will be split up into divisions. You will earn RP by completing runs and accomplishing certain goals. By doing so, you’ll climb the ranks to reach higher divisions.
Rank Progression and Rewards
Ranked Points (RP) are awarded to players for completing runs and meeting outlined goals. Rank is split up like this:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
- Pinnacle
Within each rank there are three divisions. Players will be rewarded with cosmetics at the end of each season depending on what rank they reached. Rewards include title, weapon styles, Runner Shell, and player background.
HoloTags and Score-Based System
Another major Ranked mechanic is with HoloTags. Your HoloTags decide what you're going for and can obtain on each run .Requirements to gain RP:
- Achieve an objective score required for your HoloTag tier
- Extract with the objective completed
Overperformance can allow for more RP, whether it be from picking up more HoloTags, obtaining Tag Chips off of enemies/environments, etc. Higher HoloTags provide a higher score requirement. Increasing difficulty, but allow for more bonus RP.
Entry Requirements and Matchmaking
Ranked mode will be limited to level 25 and above. There will be two matchmaking queues:
- Low Stakes (3,000 gear ante)
- High Stakes (10,000 gear ante)
For the first weekend Marathon will only have the Low Stakes queue enabled. The queue you enter will determine your matchmaking pool by risk/stake level.
