Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 competitive ranked mode dubbed League Play is now scheduled for a mid-February release, Treyarch confirmed. League Play will initially launch on PS4 with PC and Xbox One versions coming at a later unspecified date.

Treyarch have officially confirmed the release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's much-anticipated competitive ranked mode. Dubbed League Play, the new mode is dropping sometime in mid-February, but only on PlayStation 4.

The mode which was originally expected back in December 2018 is bringing an updated Call of Duty World League ruleset which includes new restrictions to Ajax, Torque and Nomad Specialists which are now fully restricted from use in CWL competitions.

Players who pick Prophet, Firebreak or Seraph won't be able to use their abilities - Seeker, Reactor Core and Tac-Deploy. Additionally, any future Specialist content will remain out of competitive play by default.

As for the weapons restrictions, Titan, Hades, VKM 750, MOG 12 and SG12 will not be available. Traditionally restricted rocket launchers will be permitted in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 competitive play after a tuning adjustment has been made to significantly reduce damage to players.

Treyarch also identified problems from previous iterations such as long League Play seasons, low player population and large ladder groupings. League Play events will now run more frequently and in shorter durations. They will be condensed and timed to achieve the highest possible player counts and healthy matchmaking.

The ladder competition will feel familiar as players will climb the ladder by winning points and drop positions when they lose ladder points.

Treyarch are also adding a World League Hub, which is a new main menu between Multiplayer and Blackout while CWL Custom games will get moved from Multiplayer to the World League Hub for easier game managing.

The developers will use the upcoming weeks to implement and test these changes. More info on the specific dates for PC and Xbox One should be coming soon after the League Play launches on PlayStation 4.
