Cheating woes plaguing League of Legends are about to face a formidable adversary, as Riot Games gears up to unveil a cutting-edge Anti-Cheat system. In response to escalating concerns surrounding unfair gameplay due to cheating and botting incidents, Riot is set to bid farewell to the dated anti-cheat mechanism that has been a constant for over a decade.
Over the past few years, instances of cheating in League of Legends have witnessed a troubling surge. Matters reached a critical point in February of the previous year when Riot encountered a substantial security breach.
A massive social engineering attack resulted in the theft of League of Legends and TFT’s source code, further intensifying the need for robust protective measures.
League’s Current Anti-Cheat
League of Legends' existing anti-cheat, having persevered since the game's inception, is now deemed outdated. In light of the significant security breach endured by Riot, a transformative shift in the Anti-Cheat landscape has become imperative. Riot, in its "Season 2024 Look Ahead," officially declared its intention to usher in a new era of Anti-Cheat.
Riot’s New Anti-Cheat
In the coming weeks, League of Legends and TFT will bid farewell to the old and welcome Riot's proprietary Anti-Cheat, Vanguard.
Successfully implemented in VALORANT, Riot vouches for Vanguard's prowess in promptly identifying and apprehending cheaters and botters. The advanced system also grants Riot the ability to hardware ban offenders and nullify matches tainted by cheaters.
However, this technological leap comes with a price—privacy concerns. Vanguard, operating at the kernel level, necessitates access to the entire system.
This has sparked apprehensions among players regarding the extent of privacy invasion. Riot, in response, affirms that Vanguard's data collection aligns with the current anti-cheat software, emphasizing a non-intrusive approach.
Release Date: Late February or Early March
As Riot braces for the implementation of Vanguard, players can expect the cutting-edge Anti-Cheat to make its debut in late February or early March.
Set to come with either Patch 14.4 or 14.5, scheduled for release on February 22 and March 6, respectively, Vanguard's arrival is poised to usher in a new era of fair and secure gameplay in League of Legends.
