Rod of Ages is finally back in League of Legends!

These Rod of Ages buffs will be coming to live servers in patch 13.1 which is set for early January 2023. Rod of Ages item changes will specifically help mage champions, such as Ryze and Kassadin.

The Rod of Ages is a well-known piece of equipment in League of Legends.  It was introduced in 2009 and rapidly became a favourite of champions such as  Ryze and Kassadin.  However, because of its specialized nature, it was removed from the game in Patch 10.23.

This preseason , Riot  elected to bring back Rod of Ages after a two-year hiatus. The new Rod of Ages is still a scaling item with many similarities to its predecessor, but it also has Mythic item status, which grants it extra stat boosts and a new Mythic passive.

Rod of Ages' early game low power was one of its most serious flaws. Riot is working to alleviate issues by increasing sustain throughout the laning phase. They are significantly enhancing the item's healing as well as the length of movement speed.

Rod of Ages changes:

  • Damage to Mana conversion reduced from 8% to 7%
  • Mana to healing conversion increased from 20% to 25%
  • Max healing per cast increased from 15 to 20
  • Bonus Movement Speed increased from 25% to 35%
  • Bonus Movement Speed duration increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds
  • The Movement Speed threshold was reduced from 250 to 200

The Catalyst of Aeons changes:

The catalyst of Aeons builds into the Rod of Ages item, therefore this built-in item will also receive some changes.

  • Damage to Mana conversion reduced from 8% to 7%
  • Mana to healing conversion increased from 20% to 25%
  • Max healing per cast increased from 15 to 20

Changes will be made to the Catalyst of Aeons as it evolves into the Rod of Ages. Its healing, like Rod of Ages, will be augmented somewhat. Because Catalyst of Aeons is an early rush item for many mages, enhancing its sustain will improve their laning phase.
