League of Legends Patch 25.17 was announced recently by Riot Games. As usual with the next-gen client, the update is minor in size but major in content changes. Riot Games is planning to buff several weak champions and nerf some overly powerful ones. On top of that, they are also going to release a brand new skin line, as well as the anticipated passives visual rework for Xin Zhao.
Gameplay wise, Riot will be buffing several marksmen, specifically Vayne, Senna and Miss Fortune, as well as popular midlaners like Kassadin, Irelia and Katarina. On the other side of the coin, champions that need to be put in their place, namely Gwen, Rumble, and Singed, are getting their healing and survivability adjusted down.
Riot is also doubling down on the recent Master Yi rework by buffing him up once more and reverting some of his previous buffs. The update also sees several items being changed to better fit in with the current meta.
This includes a rework to the low-usage Axiom Arc and the buffed Horizon Focus and Profane Hydra. As usual with a patch, Riot is also dropping a new batch of skins, which this time around will include new additions to the popular Arcana and Elderwood skin lines. Riot is also debuting a brand new cosmetic series called Visions of the Fallen, with Jarvan IV getting a Prestige skin in the theme.
When Will Patch 25.17 Release?
Patch 25.17 will roll out on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, with standard maintenance times across regions:
- North America: 3:00 AM PT
- Europe West: 5:00 AM UK Time
- Europe Nordic and East: 3:00 AM CET
Champion Buffs
Several marksmen in particular see huge buffs in this patch, with the intention of helping them match the power level of the current meta. The kits of Vayne, Senna, Miss Fortune, Nilah, and Kog’Maw are all receiving power boosts.
Midlaners Irelia and Kassadin also see their ability ratios improved, while Morgana and Sett gain a little more consistency in their utility packages. Kayn also gets mana reductions across his kit to smooth out his early-game skirmishes.
Champion Nerfs
Inversely, Gwen loses some durability and crowd control, and Rumble’s Flamespitter loses some damage. Singed’s poison damage and duration also receive a nerf, which will decrease the laning pressure he can apply.
Master Yi is perhaps the biggest target of nerfs, as he has been slowly sliding back towards dominance in recent patches. Yi has had several of his buffs from the previous patch reverted to address his power level.
System Buffs
Three items have been identified as underperforming and are receiving buffs:
- Axiom Arc is getting a cost reduction to make it easier for assassins to complete
- Horizon Focus is receiving more ability power to incentivize it for poke-heavy mages
- Profane Hydra is receiving more attack damage and reduced cost
New Skins in Patch 25.17
Six new cosmetics are available in the store. The big one is a Visions of the Fallen skin line that’s being released for Tryndamere, Garen, and Jarvan IV (which has a Prestige variant as well).
We also see the return of popular themes like Arcana Jhin and Lulu and Elderwood Alistar. In addition, Xin Zhao is receiving a full visual rework, with updated designs for his base skin and several of his legacy skins from Commando, Imperial, Dragonslayer, and Firecracker all getting updates.
Final Thoughts
League of Legends Patch 25.17 includes a lot of nerfs and buffs across the board, giving a nice mix of balance changes and systems tweaks along with several brand-new skins.
Whether you’re a marksman main, a Xin Zhao fan, or just waiting to see what the new Visions of the Fallen skins look like, this patch should have something for everyone. It may be one of the most exciting patches yet this season.
