Champion changes in Patch 25.05
Riot intends to maintain minimal champion changes in this patch to establish a balanced meta before the First Stand international tournament. Here are all the important buffs, nerfs, and role shifts.
Buffed champions
- Aphelios – More power to this high-skill ADC.
- Dr. Mundo – Buffs to enhance his durability.
- The Seraphine update probably targets enhancements to her performance in support and mid lane roles.
- Riot plans to give Zed either damage or cooldown buffs to increase his lethality.
Nerfed champions
The champions Aurora, Elise, Ashe and others will receive downgrades in their abilities.
- Ambessa
- Ashe
- Aurora
- Cho’Gath
- Elise
- K’Sante
- Skarner
- Yorick (Jungle role nerf)
Champion adjustments
- Poppy's role is being changed from Support to Top/Jungle by Riot.
System changes in Patch 25.05
Riot is making changes to items and runes along with various gameplay mechanics in addition to champion updates.
Buffed systems
- Sixth Sense – This rune gets stronger.
- Unflinching – More resilience in combat.
Nerfed systems
- The powerful rune Axiom Arcanist receives a significant reduction in strength.
Lane Swap removal: Major turret changes
Riot is implementing extreme actions because lane swapping has generated controversy. Here’s what’s changing:
- Turret fortification removed.
- Outer turrets receive 95% damage reduction when two non-jungle champions occupy positions in Top or Mid lane.
- Outer turrets inflict 1000% more damage to both minions and opposing champions.
- Players receive only half the XP and gold from enemy champions when they are detected by the system.
- The top lane turret gives champions who defend against it a 50% damage reduction.
- The gold players earn from killing minions and turrets goes to the allied champion closest to the kill location.
- Detection starts at 1: Detection begins at 1:30 and operates through 3:30 in Top Lane but stops at 2:25 in Mid Lane.
Players will receive notifications from a detection system when they breach anti-lane swap mechanics which results in debuffs that last 20 seconds in Top Lane and 8 seconds in Mid Lane.
New skins in Patch 25.05
This update introduces a new selection of skins which feature Grand Reckoning and Dumpling Darlings themes.
- Grand Reckoning Alistar
- Prestige Grand Reckoning Darius
- Grand Reckoning Draven
- Grand Reckoning Rell
- Grand Reckoning Sion
- Grand Reckoning Talon
- Sahn-Uzal Mordekaiser
- Dumpling Darlings Seraphine
Final thoughts
The Patch 25.05 update aims to improve First Stand balance while eliminating lane swapping and adding new skin options. This small patch could produce significant changes within the meta.
The competitive scene will face transformation after dominant champions are heavily nerfed and the practice of lane swapping stops. The upcoming update will become available to players on March 5, 2025.
