Capcom’s Resident Evil Requiem keeps rising our expectations as more info comes to light. It’s already gathered positive previews from folks getting hands-on with the game early, but director Koshi Nakanishi has now shared some final technical specifications before release.
Resident Evil Requiem supports ray tracing on PS5 Pro out-of-the-box, without negatively impacting performance.
PS5 Pro Performance Modes Explained
Director Koshi Nakanishi took to PlayStation Blog Japan to detail the game’s resolution and frame rate. Resident Evil Requiem plays at 4K and 60 frames per second with ray tracing on PS5 Pro. Frame rate will increase if ray tracing is turned off, allowing for a smoother experience.
Technical specs include:
- 4K / 60 FPS with ray tracing enabled
- 90–120 FPS with ray tracing off, depending on your display
- Optimised for PS5 Pro
Nakanishi stated the optimisation process was strenuous but definitely worth it for the way the game plays.
Why Higher Frame Rates Matter
Nakanishi elaborated on how one "can't go back" once you've experienced the game at faster frame rates.
He described how simply having more information coming at you helps the world around you feel believable, noting how effective the bump feels during RE's survival horror sequences where every bit of responsiveness and motion clarity counts.
It's safe to say this focus on frame rate also checks Capcom's promise to push into their games' technical fidelity. In Resident Evil Requiem, they're letting players enjoy great graphics and silky smooth gameplay without forcing players to compromise.
How It Compares to PC Versions
Granted, PC gamers will likely still hold the upper hand when it comes to graphical fidelity thanks to path tracing and multi-frame generation. But the PS5 Pro's performance is impressive for what you can get on hardware that's almost half the price.
Getting full ray tracing at 4K and 60 FPS is a testament to just how far Capcom is willing to go in optimising Resident Evil Requiem.Of course, we still have to see how the game performs on base PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware.
It's possible we could see similar features capped at 30 FPS. Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27 on console and PC.
