Activision and Blizzard have a rich portfolio of inactive video game IPs that Microsoft could revive once they officially close the acquisition.
As you probably know, Activision shelved many franchises to focus on Call of Duty, which also resulted in moving many development studios to work on this shooter, even though, some of them would probably rather work on games they actually want.
The list of games that Activision pretty much killed over the last two decades is pretty big but one of the most exciting things about the acquisition is that Activision studios can ask Microsoft to work on some of these forgotten franchises.
So, without further ado, here are five video game IPs that could make a big return once Microsoft close the Activision Blizzard acquisition.
Prototype
We'd argue that this open-world action-adventure from 2009 was ahead of its time and it's a shame that Activision decided to shelve the franchise and move Radical developers to other projects after Prototype 2.
Given that Microsoft don't really have any games like Prototype, this franchise could be one of the prime candidates for a revival and many gamers feel the same way. Fingers crossed this one happens.
Starcraft
Legendary Blizzard franchise is almost certain to return at some point and once the acquisition is officially closed, Microsoft would probably only speed up that process given how aggressively they are trying to increase PC Game Pass subscribers.
And no better way to boost those numbers than to re-release one of the biggest PC strategies of all time.
Tenchu
This one probably won't be happening as it's a game that was originally developed by From Software and we doubt the Japanese developers would love to do a follow-up, given that they already made a spiritual successor in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Still, there's hope that Microsoft give this franchise to one of their studios to make a modern stealth title set in feudal Japan.
Singularity
Another game that keeps popping up on Twitter and various gaming forums and that players would love to see revived. Singularity is a first-person shooter where players can bend the time to age enemies, degrade objects and more. It featured some pretty unique gameplay ideas but sadly we never got a follow-up to this shooter.
Hexen
The one that even Phil Spencer seems to be teasing. Hexen is a classic shooter where players use magic and melee weapons to fight off all sorts of monsters in a fast-paced, Doom-like combat.
A modern recreation of Hexen would certainly work as we've already seen that classic fast-paced games like Doom can find a large audience if done right.
Obviously, Activision Blizzard have a bunch of other great IPs but this is our personal wishlist. Some of you would probably love to see another Guitar Hero game or the return of the racing title Blur and those certainly make sense. Let's hope Microsoft will encourage their teams to work on these IPs in the near future.
