In recent times, trophy hunting has gained significant popularity, prompting developers to pay closer attention to the trophies they include in their games to cater to this enthusiastic segment of the gaming community.
The pursuit of unlocking trophies in games has elevated the gaming experience to an entirely new level. This often translates to investing more time in games that we might otherwise breeze through quickly. With the inclusion of trophies, a game becomes an opportunity for multiple playthroughs as players strive to attain that coveted platinum status.
As a fellow player who enjoys hunting for platinum trophies, I accomplished the feat of unlocking 13 Platinums from new games this year. In the following section of this article, I present AltChar's list of Platinum trophies, accompanied by concise descriptions of each Platinum and their respective difficulty levels.
AltChar's Platinum trophies in 2023
1. Hogwarts Legacy
While Hogwarts Legacy is generally an easy game with minimal challenges, achieving the platinum trophy is by no means a simple task. This difficulty primarily stems from the vast number of collectibles, notably the demanding "Collector's Edition" trophy. To earn this trophy, one must complete all collections, essentially requiring the discovery of every collectible and unlocking all entries in the game—a time-consuming endeavour indeed.
Assessing the difficulty of the platinum trophy, I would describe it as more tedious than challenging, earning a 5/10 rating. Despite the potential monotony, the Platinum journey remains intriguing. I highly recommend the game itself, as Hogwarts Legacy proves to be truly fantastic. For avid platinum hunters, it's an experience not to be missed.
2. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
In a manner somewhat akin to Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, despite being a Souls-like game, allows players to achieve the platinum trophy on easy difficulty, making it relatively straightforward. Nevertheless, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an expansive game, teeming with numerous items to discover and a plethora of side content. Attaining the platinum requires uncovering almost everything the game has to offer, undoubtedly demanding a substantial time investment.
A notably laborious trophy is the "Intergalactic Geographic," requiring players to scan every enemy to unlock it. The difficulty of obtaining this platinum is rated at 6/10, not due to its inherent challenge but rather owing to the considerable time investment. Nevertheless, for fans of the series, the journey proves to be a delightful experience.
3. Atomic Heart
Upon the game's initial release, obtaining the Platinum for Atomic Heart was an insurmountable challenge due to the significant technical issues plaguing the game. It was only through persistent effort, driven in part by determination, that I eventually succeeded in unlocking it. The difficulty of this Platinum is notably high, primarily attributed to the requirement of earning the "Atomic Heart" trophy by completing the game on the "Armageddon" difficulty—the highest setting available. Atomic Heart is inherently challenging, even in easier settings. Additionally, numerous other trophies, such as talking to all the deceased characters or finding all the pocket watches, contribute to the overall difficulty, demanding a considerable time investment.
In conclusion, earning the Platinum for Atomic Heart proves to be a captivating experience, particularly after the technical issues are resolved. Hence, my strong recommendation. Regarding difficulty, I would rate it 8/10, primarily due to a handful of exceptionally challenging trophies.
4. Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is an excellent game with a narrative that deeply resonates with your emotions, making the platinum experience truly satisfying. Given its heavy focus on the story, you'll need to complete the game a minimum of three times to attain platinum. Fortunately, the game's relatively short duration means that it won't demand an extensive time commitment. Unlocking the platinum allows you to explore all the potential alternate endings, which is a compelling reason to experience the full spectrum of the game if you choose to play it.
In terms of difficulty, I would rate it 3/10, as the trophies are not inherently challenging. Some may require specific actions in a particular sequence to avoid missing them.
5. Tchia
Tchia is an enjoyable game, and earning its platinum trophy can be a delightful experience, albeit somewhat tedious. The trophy "Ca de Wizz!" poses a challenge, requiring players to complete the game 100 per cent, which involves unlocking every entry in the journal. This, in turn, entails finding every animal in the game, a task that can be quite demanding.
In addition to the aforementioned trophy, the "Shredder" trophy poses another significant challenge, requiring a 100 per cent score in any music sequence. Those familiar with Tchia understand the true difficulty of this task. Essentially, without these two trophies, the entire platinum experience would be a breeze, warranting a 4/10 difficulty rating.
6. Atlas Fallen
Atlas Fallen, a relatively obscure release this year, is an action-adventure game featuring distinctive mechanics and unique combat. In terms of trophies, it is a straightforward experience with uncomplicated trophies. The notable exception is "Flawless Victory," where the challenge is to eliminate a wraith without sustaining any damage.
Regarding difficulty, the overall experience rates at 3/10, with most trophies unlocking naturally as you advance through the game and the remaining ones involving collecting items. While it's a suitable game to boost your platinum count, it may not provide substantial enjoyment.
7. Remnant 2
Remnant 2, in my personal view, stands out as the most exceptional game of the year and is undeniably my favourite. Aligning with the game's overall quality, earning the platinum trophy proved to be an incredible experience. Admittedly, there were technical issues with the trophies during my platinum journey, causing some frustration. Nevertheless, once everything was resolved, it became an unforgettable experience that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone with the opportunity to play.
Achieving this platinum comes with a difficulty rating of 8/10, mainly attributed to the highly challenging boss fights and the multitude of secrets that must be discovered to unlock the platinum.
8. Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 has generated diverse reactions, with opinions ranging from labelling it a total flop to considering it a masterpiece. Personally, I enjoyed it immensely, giving it a 90/100 rating in my review. In terms of the platinum experience, it is relatively straightforward, with the majority of trophies falling under the miscellaneous category. There are a few, however, that pose significant challenges, requiring players to tackle various difficult tasks.
The platinum experience, much like the game itself, is quite intriguing, and I would recommend it to all trophy hunters who have the chance to play this game. It holds a moderate difficulty level with a 5/10 rating.
9. Robocop: Rogue City
The Robocop: Rogue City platinum is the only one I obtained immediately upon completing the game, without a strong inclination to pursue the platinum. The only trophy that I actually missed was the "There Can Only Be One" trophy, achieved by completing the arguably most challenging game level within ten minutes.
The game, along with its platinum, comprises 28 trophies, making the experience relatively easy with a difficulty rating of 3/10. This platinum falls into the category of those you can unlock to boost your collection count, but the overall satisfaction from the unlocking experience is not particularly high.
10. Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2, a phenomenal game crowned the game of the year by our editorial team, boasts exceptional qualities. The platinum trophy offers an unforgettable experience, characterised by its overall ease. There are no particularly difficult trophies to unlock; everything unfolds naturally, making the platinum journey smooth and enjoyable.
The platinum difficulty for Alan Wake 2 is rated at 4/10, primarily due to some trophies that involve locating specific collectibles, which could potentially be missed. Overall, it provides a very good platinum experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to play the game.
11. Assassin's Creed: Mirage
The platinum for Assassin's Creed: Mirage is highly engaging for fans of the series and essential for platinum hunters. Overall, it's not particularly difficult, but it offers a captivating experience. While there are no inherently challenging trophies to unlock, be aware that some may be buggy, requiring you to find workarounds for successful completion.
In terms of difficulty, I would rate it at 5/10, primarily due to the abundance of collectibles that need to be found, making it a somewhat time-consuming process. Overall, it provides an engaging platinum experience and comes highly recommended.
12. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a commendable Ubisoft game with an exceptionally high-quality graphic presentation. The game boasts considerable size and substance, making the platinum journey quite lengthy and time-consuming. Notably challenging are the trophies requiring players to clear 100 percent of the air on Pandora, involving the liberation of all enemy bases—a demanding and tedious task.
Several other trophies with similar demands necessitate significant effort, making the platinum experience a genuinely challenging endeavour. However, the effort invested pays off in the end, resulting in an incredible sense of accomplishment. Given the time required, the difficulty level is rated at 7/10.
13. Marvel's Spider-Man 2
In contrast to previous Spider-Man games that required at least two playthroughs, Spider-Man 2 streamlines the process, requiring only one playthrough for platinum. The platinum experience is fantastic and entails achieving 100 percent game completion. Overall, it's not particularly difficult, except for some trophies that may take a considerable amount of time to complete.
Hence, I highly recommend pursuing this platinum, as it holds a moderate difficulty level of about 5/10—nothing particularly challenging. Completing the entire game takes on special significance when capped off by unlocking the platinum trophy.
And there you have it—these are all 13 platinums that we at AltChar achieved this year. Some additional titles from previous years were left out of this article for the sake of focusing on this year's releases.
