Confidante is a .44 magnum rifle that has a shorter range but extremely low shooting cost, meaning it can obliterate multiple enemies per turn.
However, to get this item, you will need to do something bad on Ernie island.

Upon reaching the Ernie village, the players will find several NPCs asking them to do different things. One of them is Martha, who will ask you to find her husband, Herman, and the other is Greasy Basil who mentions his friend Tinhay has been murdered by the Legion. He suspects Luc ratted Tinhay out, leading to his death. For now, we need to focus on Martha's mission.
Herman is located in the Emerald Coast in sector I3 where he needs to be rescued from the Legion. Once you kill the Legion and disarm the mine under Herman's feet, he will admit that it was him who snitched on Tinhay but asks you not to tell the village.
Return to Ernie Village and you will witness Greasy Basil attempting to lynch Luc over Tinhay's death. You have a choice to tell who the real culprit is or remain silent.
While it's counter intuitive, you will need to stay silent on the matter and let Luc be hanged if you want to get the unique rifle.
Once Basil hangs his best friend, you can speak to Herman who will give you a bunch of items, including the Confidante.
