Jagged Alliance 3 - Mods are pretty important

Are you unsure how to mod your weapons? We have got you covered, along with a few recommendations.

Weapon modification is crucial in Jagged Alliance 3. The correct choice of mods, or lack thereof, will literally mean the difference between killing the enemies and your mercs getting splattered all over Grand Chien.

To get the basics of weapon modification - with the how and what you need, check out our introductory guide.

To get a better understanding of how the mods synergise with each other and the merc wielding the weapon, proceed below.

Crit or aim improvement?

This question will be the thing you will ask yourself the most and the answer is simple - if you can create an environment where your mercs will have guaranteed or close to guaranteed shots, go for the crits. Otherwise, prioritise aiming mods.

Easily the best aiming synergy is heavy stock, long barrel, vertical grip and the ACOG sight. The sight will give you free x3 aim at the start of each turn, provided shooting is the first action you make. With heavy stock and vertical grip, your attacks will be even more accurate than with regular x3 aim, making even weak marksmen into lead surgeons. This setup is highly recommended on MD and Livewire, who are highly capable mercs and are only held back by their poor aiming initially.

You can also run short barrel on certain assault rifles, like the AUG, which will result in single shot costing only 3AP. As such, you can get three or four shots off per turn, making it extremely lethal.

Similarly, for snipers, try to use bipod with x5 or x10 scope. This will guarantee you never miss a shot while prone. If you add a Tactical Device to your rifle along with Ambusher perk and Stealthy trait, you will have an epic sneak attack machine that will one-shot everything except the bosses who are immune to that particular mechanic.

If you loot an M82, slap a thermal scope on it and while prone, you will be able to hit enemies that you don't even see by using a spotter. You can have a sneaky merc creep up on them and shoot the enemy from 40 tiles away with no issues.

Close-range mercs should prioritise crit chance, especially those who are ambidextrous. Fox, Meltdown and Tex can annihilate anything but the most heavily armoured enemies in close range while Vicky goes even beyond that. Just remember to bring AP rounds as small caliber weapons don't have much penetration.
