Jagged Alliance 3 players may run into trouble trying to deal with enemies early on because of frequent misses on account of having unupgraded weapons and low Marksmanship on many mercs, which is why those upgraded versions will be fantastic dopamine hits.
Haemimont released several trailers featuring the M82 anti-materiel rifle which will likely be popular in treasure hunts, but players will find that they won't get one for a fairly long time.
In fact, the first one they will probably encounter is going to appear after the big plot twist where the mercs barely survive, if they do at all. As such, in the interest of avoiding spoilers, I highly recommend you don't read further unless you've witnessed a massive change in the refugee camp. You will know when it happens.
Where to find M82 in Jagged Alliance 3
Following the big event in the refugee camp, you are presented with additional primary quests - dealing with a certain major and with Corazon.
Visiting Emma in Port Cacao will reveal where you can find each of them and you will have to go back to the island where you started the game. Clear the sectors to reach the fort there and attack it once again. This time around, it is not Legion you will face but the well-armed guards Corazon hired to protect her from you.
When you clear the fort, the game will notify you she is nowhere to be found so you will have to go through the secret underground facility to reach her.
Be careful not to aggro too many enemies here because there is a pile of them and they can mount a fixed machinegun to obliterate your squad if you proceed down the middle. Slowly clear the corridor and go to the rooms on your left as soon as possible. Quick save here and then clear them one by one.
When you reach the second to last room, the one with a whole lot of bunk beds, you will see a loot container. This is where the M82 can be looted.
In the unlikely case the container spawned some worse loot, quick load to the save you made in the first room and repeat the steps until you get the rifle.
Upon moving from the side rooms to the middle corridor, make sure you slowly scout it out with someone who has high Agility and a camo chest piece because you are going to meet a whole lot of enemies there.
M82 is easily the best heavy sniper rifle in the game and it will provide one-shot headshots regardless of the armour class the enemy has. So yeah, it is well worth the trouble.
