Developer Housemarque have confirmed that their Returnal follow up Saros will now launch on April 30, 2026 for PlayStation 5, delaying the game from its original release window. We also got a new trailer, giving us another glimpse at combat and story.

Housemarque announced Saros releases on April 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, pushing beyond its initial launch window of March 20. The 90-second Game Awards trailer showcased Returnal-inspired bullet hell combat, dual-realm environments reminiscent of Lords of the Fallen, and an ensemble cast led by Rahul Kohli voicing protagonist Arjun Devraj alongside returning Returnal actor Jane Perry.

Saros follows Soltari Enforcer Arjun Devraj, investigating the lost off-world colony Carcosa under permanent eclipse. The trailer demonstrates alien planets rendered in two distinct states - normal environment and eclipse-induced blackout - suggesting reality-shifting mechanics where players navigate between realms, solving puzzles and battling creatures unique to each dimension.

We're not quite sure if the game will heavily lean into this or it's just a case of one-and-done planet, but it's safe to say that it looks fantastic in the trailer.

Returnal-style bullet ballet combat

Gameplay footage once again confirms Housemarque's signature "bullet ballet" combat with fast-paced action requiring players to dodge projectile patterns whilst fighting massive alien beasts. The trailer showcases a new Parry ability activated via R1, reflecting projectiles back at enemies with perfect timing to destroy or stagger them.

Housemarque describes Saros as their "biggest and most ambitious story yet," emphasising character-driven narrative over pure arcade action. Whether they successfully balance storytelling with their gameplay-first philosophy is the critical question. But with their reputation, it's safe to say that we're excited for both.

Ensemble cast and hub structure

Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass, iZombie) voices Arjun Devraj, supported by Jane Perry, returning from Returnal as Sheridan Bouchard. Additional cast includes Ben Prendergast (God of War: Ragnarok), David DeSantos, Adriyan Raye (South of Midnight), and Shunori Ramanthan.

Players meet NPCs in the Passage, which will serve a hub starting each run, or discover their stories through conversations, hologram logs, and audio files whilst exploring Carcosa.

Saros launches April 30, 202,6 with Digital Deluxe edition offering 48-hour early access.

Pre-orders are available now on the PlayStation Store.
