Leon S. Kennedy is returning as second playable protagonist in Resident Evil Requiem, joining FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft for a dual-character survival horror experience.

It's been long rumoured but now, it's official - Leon S. Kennedy is Resident Evil Requiem's second playable protagonist alongside FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. The new trailer, which Capcom aired at The Game Awards showcases Leon's weathered appearance - older, heavily scarred, and visibly hardened - whilst revealing Umbrella-connected villain Victor Gideon and dark atmospheric environments drenched in rain. Check it out above.

The trailer follows Grace investigating Gideon's mansion before becoming trapped by the Umbrella-affiliated antagonist. Leon arrives to extract her from the deteriorating situation, suggesting narrative structure alternates between both protagonists' perspectives.

Capcom promises "contrasting gameplay styles" between Grace's analytical approach and Leon's veteran combat expertise, though specifics remain vague beyond this marketing language.

Minimal gameplay footage shown

Actual gameplay remains frustratingly scarce - the trailer includes brief shot of Leon smashing a zombie with an axe, a couple of seconds of shooting and a chainsaw takedown - before cutting away. Most footage emphasises cinematic atmosphere over actual raw gameplay, so we got to see heavy rainfall, industrial locations, and ruined Raccoon City rather than combat systems, resource management, or puzzle-solving, which the series' is known for.

The reveal also featured Porsche product placement as part of manufacturer collaboration, because nothing says survival horror like luxury vehicle branding during zombie apocalypse.

One thing that I've found quite intersting is Leon's visual design which reflects years of bioterrorism combat. His face is scarred and he looks much older than in previous Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026 with Deluxe Edition pre-orders available now.
