343 Industries delayed their Colony DLC for Halo Wars 2 due to a "game breaking glitch". The bug is tied to the new Skitterer units and is being addressed at the moment. The DLC will roll out sometime next week.
Halo Wars 2 DLC named Colony was supposed to drop earlier this month, but 343 Industries found a "game breaking glitch" which prevented them from going through with the release. Colony is a new army leader based on Halo's Hunters and the developers noticed that the new Skitterer units were buggy.
Here's the deal:
The Skitterer units can be attached to the friendly units and be used as an auto-targeting turret. Aaand pause. This is where they found the glitch. Once the turrets locked on, they continued shooting at the foes, with no regard for the line of sight, range, and basic human decency. This means that they can fire at something across the map from them.
Realising the glitch could be "cheap exploit that would immediately result in some really bad game experiences and whole lot of salt from players on the receiving end" they decided to hold the DLC back and fix the issue before releasing it into the cruel world, where it will be mercilessly judged anyway.
As the DLC is held back, the current ranked season will carry on over the weekend, and as soon as it rolls out, a new season will start. Colony DLC is now set for release sometime next week, and it will include two new achievements and eight new Blitz Cards.
The new achievements are:
- Hunter/Hunted - User Hunter Captain's Taunt ability 50 times
- Turrets Everywhere - Attach 50 Skitterers to squads
The new units and abilities will be available in all competitive multiplayer modes. The DLC will come equipped with a few more abilities that are unique to Deathmatch, Strongholds and Domination modes of play. Once Colony drops, Waypoint will get a small update which will introduce Leaderboards to Halo Wars 2.
