Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the first ever Call of Duty title to introduce an open-world campaign design, which is something that not all fans of this shooter series were ecstatic about.
However, Activision and their in-house Call of Duty studios will double down on such a concept moving forward according to the reports from Insider Gaming.
The upcoming Call of Duty game which is rumoured to be titled Black Ops Gulf War and all future games will feature open world campaign design, albeit, a much more fleshed out, unlike Modern Warfare 3 campaign, which felt a bit half-baked.
The report suggests that the map will be bigger with traversal similar to that of Far Cry so expect all sorts of vehicles and a fast travel system. The campaign for Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War is apparently built from the ground up with the open world in mind but it will still feature linear missions that players can take within this open world.
In addition, the report also states that Black Ops Gulf War's campaign is being developed by Raven Software while multiplayer and Zombies mode are handled by Treyarch Games.
As for Call of Duty 2025, which is codenamed Saturn, Activision will continue with an open-world campaign and already have plans to separate the map into several different biomes. A lead developer is yet to be assigned for this one, though.
To us, this sounds a lot like Ghost Recon in first-person where players will be able to plan out their approach, be it stealth or all guns blazing method. Obviously, it remains to be seen just how much content this open world will have and if the reactivity is on point, like in Ghost Recon games.
Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War is yet to be officially announced but we expect to finally see it in the coming months. The release date should come later this year, around the month of October, which is usually when Call of Duty games are released.
