Bungie worked on making Trials of Osiris more accessible for everyone and came up with a few solutions, including the one where we can avoid stacked teams.

Destiny 2 is getting Labs back with Season 15 and the testing will mostly revolve around making Trials a better experience for those not carried by top players or who are not top players themselves. In other words, the mode should become more accessible, enjoyable and worth the time for anyone who joins in.

Bungie already announced they were going to require the latest expansion to play the game mode so when cheaters get banned, they will have something to lose, as opposed to just creating a new free account.

Now, Trials will become more accessible to everyone else since it will no longer require players to team up beforehand. You can just grab that passage and jump in on your own, after which the game will try to provide you teammates and opponents roughly around your skill level.

On top of that, the Labs are coming back and Freelance Trials will be available there. Players will be able to test out how it would be to play the mode without anyone being on a team, possibly making fifth and seventh win rewards more widely available but all the stars will need to align if someone is to win Flawless here.
