Epic have rolled out the v.8.40 update to Fortnite: Battle Royale and while it doesn't add any new weaponry, it takes to the skies more than ever, with Air Royale limited time mode. Fan favourite LTM Food Fight is also making a return.
"Pilot the X-4 Stormwing in this Limited Time Mode as you fight to become the last plane flying! Complete free Challenges to unlock brand new Wraps as you rule the skies", Epic wrote.
Air Royale is a Duos mode and each plane has 3 lives, with players respawning until the plane has been downed. You can, however, add more lives to it, by hijacking another team's plane, which will cost them a life.
Touching the ground is a no-no, as it will instantly eliminate players. To better drive this point, Epic made sure that parking the plane for more than a few seconds makes it explode.
Fortnite's storm rings have just gotten some verticality too, as they come with a ceiling that will be gradually lowered throughout the match. This means that the later it is in the game, the harder it will get to manoeuvre.
To ensure everything is flight-based, loot chests will be dropping from the sky. Fortnite's flying chests come in five rarities, and each packs various upgrades for player and X-4 Stormwing's weaponry.
There are also repair kits floating around, which heal planes and grant Fortnite players health and shields. Also, if you happen to receive a gun you already have, it will be converted into additional ammo.
Fortnite's v8.40 update also marks the return of a fan favourite LTM Food Fight - Deep Fried, which has two teams building forts around their restaurant mascot, and then duking it out in hope of destroying the other team's mascot before they do yours in.
On popular demand, Epic brought back the Egg Launcher skin for the Grenade Launcher, which is, of course, just a visual change. A popular one though.
