The republic of Epic Games continues with its relentless polishing of Fortnite: Battle Royale, with the new 5.21 patch adding a heavy sniper rifle, bringing back Sniper Shootout LTM and introducing a brand new mode called the Soaring 50's.
Even though I'm sure many may not agree, it was probably high time for Epic to inject some fresh air into Fortnite's sniper play. With the latest addition being the double barrel shotgun, even though shotguns were barely the weakest link, perhaps it was only fair to balance the opposite side of the spectrum next.
Anyway, the heavy sniper comes in epic and legendary variants, which deal 150 and 157 damage respectively, There's a catch though - the same rounds deal 1050 and 1100 to Fortnite's construction pieces, which means it'll be a viable alternative to the rocket launcher. You know, just for those occasions when you encounter them architectural visionaries.
Of course, not everything about the heavy sniper is as grand, because Epic ensured that it's a high risk high reward weapon. Namely, it doesn't have a clip and the hefty damage comes at the expense of a lengthy reload. So in short - you better make them count.
Fortnite's Sniper Shootout is back for another serving, with only slight adjustments, at least as far as the frontend goes. Scoped assault rifles are out and will be replaced by the heavy sniper rifle. Floor loot will be halved and the only weapons suffering from bullet drop will be sniper rifles. Epic say they'll be tracking K/D and wins, so it's fair to assume that excelling in the mode may earn you an invitation to bigger Fortnite events.
Soaring 50's on the other hand is the 50v50 with a twist, where the twist refers to mobility. Gliders will be useable each time you're at a sufficient altitude to do so and Epic will be upping the spawn rates on impulse grenades, bounce pads and launch pads. Unlike Sniper Shootout though, your progress and K/D ration won't be measured.
