Epic Games have rolled out the 6.31 update to Fortnite: Battle Royale, which adds a new limited time mode called Team Rumble LTM and a new and improved pump shotgun, which should go a long way towards turning it into a viable option.
Yeah, viable, as opposed to the pump shotgun's current state, which according to our internal AltChar poll makes it the least desirable weapon in-game. That's not to say that better Fortnite players can't or don't make it work, but even Epic were obviously aware of its lackluster performance, since the patch actually brought a few general changes to the weapon.
"Shotguns will now always apply at least 3 pellets worth of damage if only 1-2 pellets hit the target", the company wrote, reminding players that bonus pellets cannot be critical hits. once more of the gun's, ahem, proximity perks. Also, we're not really sure why Epic had to explain pump shotgun's mechanics, as if the type was just added, but we guess a few minutes on their support line would provide that answer.
Anyway, the company added two more pump shotgun variants to Fortnite - epic and legendary. The flavours dish out 105 and 110 damage, respectively, but the team upped the existing pump shotgun's damage from 80 / 85 to 95 / 100 as well.
As for Fortnite's new LTM, Team Rumble is played with two teams, each consisting of 20 players. Players will be respawning 5 seconds after they've been killed, while keeping their inventory. The goal is to rack up 100 eliminations and enemies can help you in that respect, since they'll be dropping random ammo types and stacks of 120 material upon death. To further spice things up, Epic tweaked Team Rumble to only support uncommon or better weaponry.
Epic also added stink bombs to supply drops, removed double barrel shotguns from floor loot, made some mounted turret adjustments and, as usual, threw in a host of tweaks and bug fixes.
