From Software's critically acclaimed action RPG Elden Ring has shipped more than 20 million units worldwide, publisher Bandai Namco announced today.
Bandai Namco have announced today that Elden Ring has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. This popular action RPG was already From Software's best-selling game ever by quite a margin but it's now taking on other mammoth titles like God of War (2018) , and the original Red Dead Redemption , both of which sold 23 million copies.
"Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and FromSoftware, Inc. are pleased to announce that the co-developed action RPG, ELDEN RING, has shipped more than 20 million units worldwide," said the official press release.
For comparison's sake, From Software's biggest release before Elden ring was Dark Souls 3 , which shipped over 10 million units. Elden Ring is also on track to beat the lifetime sales of the Dark Souls franchise, which sold around 27 million copies.
It's certainly no surprise that Elden Eing managed to attract so many players given that it is indeed From Sofwares biggest game yet and perhaps even the most accessible due to its open-world design.
Great reception from both players and critics also helped. Elden Ring's PC meta score currently sits at 94 out of 100 on Metacritic while on Steam it has 94 per cent positive reviews.
The game also won numerous awards , including The Game of The Year award at The Game Awards 2022.
Top five From Software games ranked by sales
- Elden Ring (20 million)
- Dark Souls 3 (10 million)
- Dark Souls (5.5 million)
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (5 million)
- Dark Souls 2 (3.2 million)
All in all, it's certainly great to see such a well-received game breaking records in terms of sales. We have no doubts that Elden Ring will sell a lot more in the coming years. Our prediction is that it will probably reach 30 million sold copies at one point since From Software are rumoured to have DLC in plans that will certainly boost the sales further.
