Developer Code Mystics are teasing something Killer Instinct related on their website. You'll notice that the website address for the teaser page includes "KI" abbreviation, which hints that the upcoming announcement is indeed for the beloved Xbox franchise.
At the time of writing, the announcement is 42 hours away which means the news will be shared on Friday, December 2, 2022. We also tried to check the website code for any potential clues, but the devs included a cheeky message: "Really, nothing to see here. Hacked together in an hour. No breadcrumbs. Sorry. Just wait for the clock to run down."
In addition to the countdown website, Code Mystics also shared an image via their official Twitter profile, which shows people playing classic Killer Instinct on retro arcade machines. So yeah, it does look like the announcement is related to classic Killer Instinct games.
Code Mystics are a Vancouver-based studio who are "keenly interested in pixel-perfect classic revivals supplemented by modern enhancements such as best-of-breed online multiplayer" according to their own words.
This is another strong hint that the team is working on adding some new features to the older Killer Instinct titles. Whether they'll update all versions including Xbox One or it's just for the arcade, it remains to be seen, though. Xbox fans would certainly be ecstatic if they got multiplayer for Killer Instinct 1 and 2, there's no doubt about that.
Killer Instinct was first released back in 1994 on Arcade machines, followed by a release on SNES and Gameboy. Since then, we got two more Killer Instinct games, with the last one being an Xbox exclusive from 2013.
Rumours about a brand new Killer Instinct game have been swirling around recently but so far, there is nothing official from Microsoft on that matter.
