Fighting game MultiVersus has made a successful return to Steam. Although it did not break the record from 2022, it again had more activity than any other classic type brawler games.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter that brings characters from various franchises under Warner Bros. umbrella. Players can choose between Batman, Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark and more and every hero has different and unique moves.
Team fighting game MultiVersus has been available in version 1.0 since yesterday, and in less than 24 hours on Steam, it managed to repeat the result of two years ago - it is once again the most active fighting game in the history of the PC platform.
It did not break its previous record of 153 thousand simultaneous players, but with 114 thousand active players it was more successful than recent fighting games such as Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8. Of course, this is supported by the fact that this is free-to-play title.
However, player reactions to version 1.0 have been mixed so far. Some people preferred MultiVersus during testing two years ago, and the changes made for version 1.0 didn't sit well with everyone.
Players are complaining about less responsive controls, the absence of a training mode (which was present before), problematic matchmaking, etc. It remains to be seen whether the situation will improve in the coming days and whether interest in the game will remain at a similar level.
Two years ago, MultiVersus dropped from 150,000 simultaneously active players to 25,000 in the space of a month, and a month after that, it had five times less active players.
